Welcome to PADDI
a major resource for Irish architectural
and planning information on the Web
PADDI(Planning Architecture Design Database Ireland) is produced in
collaboration by the Architecture and Planning Libraries of Queen's University
Belfast and University College Dublin.
PADDI is a bibliographic database which aims to provide wide access to information
on all aspects of the built environment and environmental planning in Ireland,
north and south. Indexing of material began in 1980; indexed material includes
items published from c 1865 to the present, but the majority of items date from
the mid 20th century onwards; the time period covered is 12th century to the present.
Directory/Links
The Directory aims to provide searchable descriptions of major collections of
interest to researchers. Links connects to other useful web sites.
Number of records
The database currently contains 23385 bibliographic records, and was last
updated 12 May 2008.
Accessing the PADDI Database
Click on Search in the menu above to begin searching the database. Then choose either:
Search All Fields which searches ALL the fields in the entire database
(good for inexperienced searchers). Note that if you enter more than
one word the database will retrieve records that have these words in the same field.
Advanced Search which allows searching of one or more specific fields
(good for experienced database users and those with more specific requests)

Images
The site includes images of some, but not all, of the referenced buildings.
The Notes field in specific records will indicate if there are accompanying
images. To access photographs, computer generated images etc click the Images button.
