Note(s) | UCD began its move from the city centre to the 330-acre Belfield site in the 1970s. A&D Wejchert designed much of the campus after winning a £3,500 competition. The 355,000 sq.ft. science complex was among the first to be completed followed by the 140,000 sq.ft. arts building. The 60-metre Water Tower won the 1979 Irish Concrete Society Award while the Administration building, Ireland's first atrium building won the Triennial Gold Medal from the RIAI. A contemporary campus development plan was established in 2005 and new additions include the 720,000 sq.ft. science centre and the UCD Sport and Fitness complex. |
